Website Mania!!!
I am told that the average age of bowlers affiliated to BSA is about 65, being 70- plus VAT myself, I wonder how many use WEBSITES. We were not inculcated with the world of High Tech in our work lives and we are constantly playing catch up to our new younger masters of the world. To be honest I am loving every minute of it, no matter how frustrating it gets at times.
I wonder how many bowlers KNOW about WEBSITES. I wonder how many do know but couldn’t care less about them.
The reason I pose these question is because we are informed by the experts that you can’t expect to progress in life without them.
No business worth its salt can possibly be without a WEBSITE – be it a small Bed &Breakfast affair up to the huge business conglomerates – so we are informed.
You can’t get very far into any day without the word popping up in front of you.
Having just mastered the fax and copying machine I have been WEBSITING all over the place. Yes – they are brilliant – well some are.
So how do WEBSITES fare in our bowling fraternity ? Well click on and see for yourself.
Let’s start with the BSA site, – notice how I’ve dropped into the jargon –www.bowlssa.co.za. Up it comes, and its truly good. We couldn’t ask for a better information service.
Well done to you all at HQ. Let’s go through all the sections – yes it seems to cover all our queries. Aah, Links and Resources, now that should be interesting, let see how many clubs and Districts are connected.
Oh dear! This can’t be true surely,
Out of over 500 affiliated bowling clubs only TEN are listed with a WEBSITE. Of these, six are from the Pretoria areas.
Of the 20 Bowling Districts only SIX are listed. My own WP District sends out a nice site. Gerald Dixons Gauteng N also puts out a good info site.
I know there MUST be other clubs with websites, I just wonder why they haven’t made a link with BSA.
My suspicion of why we bowlers are not Website minded is possibly because we are – yes, let’s say it – too old to be truly interested, and too proud to admit it.
If I was to offer some advice to my fellow septuagenarians, do what my wife and I do when we get stuck in a computer problem – we ask our TEN year old grandson Conner to sort it out, AND teach us how to overcome it in the future.
But Nil Desperandum, it’s not just bowlers who are a mite shy of Websites. I recently played in a Seniors golf tournament with approx 100 taking part.
I asked them at prize giving how many used web sites for their golf info etc. – FIVE raised their hands. Twas ever thus.
